Dry ice cleaning for manufacturing & production machinery

Resin, release-agent residue, adhesive and production deposits can collect in fine features and awkward access points. The right cleaning method needs to remove the deposit while preserving the surface the process relies on.

The maintenance objective

Start with the component.

Mould cavities, vents and parting surfaces are specific dry ice cleaning applications. Other production machinery needs its own assessment: a method suitable for a metal tool is not automatically suitable for a label, seal, sensor or aged coating.

Discuss the component, site requirements and maintenance window with M&S. Suitability, availability and any specialist involvement are confirmed before work is agreed.

Assets & deposits

Equipment & cleaning considerations.

Injection moulds & tooling

Resin and release-agent deposits on cavities, vents and parting surfaces.

Tool material, coating and finish guide the test area and settings.

Production conveyors & drives

Selected grease, adhesive and accessible process build-up.

Isolate moving parts and plan collection around adjacent equipment.

Pumps, gearboxes & housings

Oil films and external deposits before maintenance.

Protect openings, seals and any surfaces not included in the scope.

Packaging & printing components

Suitable adhesive, ink or residue on agreed surfaces.

Check coatings and fine features; removal performance is application-specific.

Planning & controls

Define the work.
Protect the asset.

Plan access around the production window, nearby processes and material recovery. In-place cleaning may reduce dismantling where access and isolation allow.

Use a test area where compatibility or removal performance is uncertain. Agree the required finish before work; do not assume a coating-preparation profile will result.
